Who does not remember the famous Renault 5 and the endless variations that have been happening over the years?

The Renault 5 was made internationally in January 1972.

At a time when the three vehicles of reference on the market were the Mini, Renault 4 and Citroen Dyane, Renault felt the need to produce a vehicle that join the best qualities of each of these cars. Thus the Renault 5 should be a city vehicle simultaneously, agile and easy to drive, but also an economic and estradista comfortable on long trips so as to make it at the same time popular, attractive and accessible.

In the development of inciial Renault 5, there was a segment of customers that Renault wanted to reach: women, young and unmarried as well as a wide range of more layers socio-professional. Perhaps because of this throughout history this car models were produced alcunhados "Car of Madam"

The Renault 5 was a compact with 3.53 m and already had a performance and comfort of semi-competitive segment of passenger vehicles. It had the advantage of having the back door getting a lift carrying capacity between 215 to 545 dm3, with the rear seat rebatido.

Renault defined this vehicle in its terms of reference was as "a vehicle capable of carrying no matter what, no matter who, no matter where, as quickly and safely as possible."

At a time when the auto market, security was not the level of importance they have today, Renault has made its concern that this vehicle estradistas present good qualities, a comfortable suspension and to prevent the fatigue and a "nervousness" acceptable keeping a good margin of manoeuvre in critical situations.

In the field of passive safety have been too many tests in order to create a good resistance to shock.

The Creator

Michel Boué is the Father of the Renault 5. This stylist car had just come to the Renault-style workshops and from a photograph of the Renault 4 outlines what will be later the Renault 5.

Michel Boué to carry out this blueprint designed a capôt short, reducing to a minimum scale of the radiator, two vertical farolins that followed the line of flight of the back, large glazed surfaces, two large side doors, a large rear door that descended to the line of bumper, lines vincadas but without being angulosas, with the flanks totally devoid of trim and displaying a vinco in a position relatively low, at the same level as the bumper.

After small improvements that do not descaracterizam this draft, obtained such unanimity that was not even necessary to confront it with the other competing projects.

Other technological innovations in the field were showing a monoblock structure and panels mostly soldiers, ensuring a considerable structural rigidity, or "bumper" in fiber, engaging and able to absorb ímpactos of up to 7 km / h without significant damage.
